Dawn patrol intel · Cape Town · hourly SST map →
One score per launch per dawn (05:00–09:00 SAST), built from four ingredients: sea state a kayak can launch in, the water-mass regime, distance to the nearest temperature edge, and the bite trigger (pressure fall, cloud, first breeze after calm). A hard gate zeroes any morning a kayak can't fish: dawn wind over 10 kn or steep wind-sea over 2.2 m. Long-period groundswell doesn't gate — it rides under you.
Case study — Sat 8 Aug 2026: on the model's first validation weekend, the confirmed katonkel day at Three Anchor Bay scored as the best morning of its week at every launch (pre-frontal trigger on the warmest, most stratified water), and the southeaster days correctly zeroed out. Ocean inputs: SACOFS-West hourly forecast (~1 km, updated daily, ~2.5-day horizon); weather & swell: Open-Meteo forecast. Scores are model output, not gospel — component weights are v0.1 guesses awaiting calibration against your logged catches. Hover any cell for its breakdown.
